ProPublica announced today that Nicole Collins Bronzan has been appointed as ProPublica’s new Director of Communications, reporting to President Richard Tofel. Collins Bronzan will take charge of promoting the Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom’s investigations and ensuring they reach the communities where they will have impact.

Collins Bronzan comes to ProPublica after serving as the communications director for Freedom to Marry, where she led the group’s public relations efforts to win the right to marry for all people across the country after earlier work for the nonprofit, public interest law firm Legal Action Center. From 2003 until 2009 she worked at The New York Times, first as a staff editor in metro and then as an assistant metro editor, where she helped edit the City Room blog and managed coverage of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and urban arts with emphasis on web and multimedia. Collins Bronzan began her career as a copy editor at the Tampa Bay Times and is a graduate of Florida A & M University.

Collins Bronzan begins her new duties on September 16. She replaces Mike Webb, who has chosen to relocate to Hawaii and will be leaving ProPublica in late September after a brief transition period.
